Lie on any Sealy mattress and you channel a century and a quarter of mattress ingenuity. A journey that began in 1881 in the town of Sealy, Texas, when Daniel Haynes, cotton gin builder, filled a request for a cotton-filled mattress. And then another. And then another. His business grew exponentially, which led to more innovations and several patents. Among them, a machine that compressed cotton.

Sealy continued their quest for the world to sleep better for decades to come. Milestones include the introduction of the Sealy Posturepedic mattress. Being the first mattress company to display and advertise a king-sized bed. Creating an Orthopedic Advisory Board. Reinventing the innerspring coil and the box spring. Patenting a variety of groundbreaking technologies, including Posture Channels and Pressure Relief Inlays designed to relieve pressure points that cause tossing and turning. And the list continues to grow to this day. In late 1983, Sealy purchased the Stearns & Foster Company. True to the Sealy heritage, these mattresses redefined luxury and expressed a dedication to craftsmanship and intricate detail. Making it a perfect and sound addition to the Sealy family of beds.

Most recently, Embody by Sealy mattresses were unveiled. These breakthrough mattresses brought a new ideal to the mattress surface: health. With progressive latex and memory foams, Embody by Sealy mattresses brought healthier sleep surfaces and even healthier room environments to consumers. Another shining example of Sealy innovation at work.

Today the company owns and operates 25 bedding plants in the U.S. Three are dedicated to innerspring and foundation component parts and one is dedicated to producing its very own latex–another first in the mattress industry.

For three decades, Sealy has been number one in market share and unwavering in its vision to help the world sleep better. And through its design, manufacturing and leadership, Sealy is poised to continue its legacy for years to come.

We have a very simple mission: to help the world sleep better. And it's so much more than just a hollow philosophy or something we hang on the walls. This mission literally drives everything we do. It's for this reason that we spend more on research and development than any other mattress brand in the world.

The process of designing better mattresses starts from the inside out. With people like you who have a very simple need: to get a better night's sleep. We conduct extensive research, including interviews in people's homes to get at the heart of what will help them sleep better. Though most people don't spend their days thinking about mattresses, almost everyone has a suggestion or two. And the best suggestions can often be found within our beds.

When it comes to Sealy Posturepedic mattresses, we’ve gone a step further by forming the Orthopedic Advisory Board (OAB) – a group of the finest doctors, clinicians and orthopedic surgeons who play a critical role in the design process.  The doctors apply the extensive expertise they've gained while helping their patients sleep better to the design of Sealy Posturepedic mattresses to help the rest of the world sleep better. The OAB and Sealy have also worked hand in hand to create the Pressure Mapping Lap Center of Excellence, a first-of-its-kind facility where all Sealy Posturepedic mattresses are scientifically tested to ensure that they provide maximum comfort by eliminating the uncomfortable pressure points that cause tossing and turning. Sealy Posturepedic is the only mattress brand in the industry that has strict pressure-relieving standards for every one of its mattresses.

Known as the original luxury mattress brand, Stearns & Foster mattresses are made by specially certified craftsmen who build every mattress with extraordinary attention to detail using the finest materials in the world. Each craftsman personally signs a craftsman card that’s included with every mattress - demonstrating their own personal commitment to helping the world sleep better.

This mission extends to our budget line of mattresses, known simply as Sealy Brand. Though these are budget-priced mattresses, we believe that even a budget-priced mattress can have quality features and materials to ensure durability. They’re also put through the most rigorous quality and durability testing in the industry, ensuring that Sealy Brand mattresses will allow budget-focused consumers to sleep better.
